英語の本を読むのは苦手。新しいページを一瞥した時に言葉が目に飛び込んでこない。話の流れに思わず引き込まれてしまう場合は気にならないが、そうでない時は辛い。

この本は辛いのかなと思うと、ところどころに目を見張るようなキラキラした一文が散りばめられていて驚く。これは救世主の、ある一言について注意深く考えさせられるということ？

Simple, direct, quotable, and it doesn’t answer the question unless somebody takes the time to think carefully about it.

著者は、次のようなことを時折考えて自分の答えがどう変わるのかを観察することを勧めている。

Where were you born? Where is your home? Where are you going? What are you doing? Think about these once in a while, and watch your answers change.

学ぶということについて。

You teach best what you most need to learn. You are led through your lifetime by the inner learning creature, the playful spiritual being that is your real self.

そうかと思えば少しいい加減と感じるところもあり、これが心地よい。

We don’t even have to answer to ourselves, if we don’t feel like it … there’s nothing wrong with being irresponsible. A cloud does not know why it moves in just such a direction and at such a speed.

違う将来、違う過去を選択することも自由。

You’re always free to change your mind and choose a different future, or a different past. Believe you know all answers, and you know all answers. Say you have it, and you have it! Act as if it’s yours, and it is!

この世界が、すべてイリュージョンであれば、違う過去を選択することもできるということ？

この毛虫と蝶の一節は秀逸だと思う。

What the caterpillar calls the end of the world, the master calls a butterfly. Here is a test to find whether your mission on earth is finished: If you’re alive, it isn’t.

最後に家族・友達について。

The bond that links your true family is not one of blood, but of respect and joy in each other’s life. Don’t be dismayed at good-byes. A farewell is necessary before you can meet again. And meeting again, after moments or lifetimes, is certain for those who are friends.
